The litigation department at LPS represents clients in a variety of matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts, in bankruptcy courts, and in arbitrations, mediations and administrative hearings. Because we have offices in San Francisco and in Los Angeles, we routinely handle cases both in northern and southern California. We have extensive trial experience both in jury and in court trials, representing domestic and international corporate and financial institutions. Our attorneys have tried cases for liability insurance carriers, title insurance companies, real estate developers, general contractors, and professionals. The firm has handled numerous matters relating to estate and trust disputes, and regularly handles land use, labor and employment-related administrative proceedings and lawsuits. We also handle personal injury litigation and product liability matters and are experienced in unfair business practice suits, copyright and trademark infringement suits.
Because our firm has been practicing for nearly 100 years, we have a broad array of business clients ranging from clothing manufacturers to wineries, and from high-tech equipment and computer service companies to schools, nonprofit organizations and individuals. We typically have long-standing relationships with our clients. We try to thoroughly understand their businesses and their needs and often are able to come up with creative solutions in the context of litigation or litigation avoidance. In this connection, where appropriate, we work closely with attorneys from our business department, who regularly serve our clients regarding non-litigation-related commercial matters.
Our litigation department also handles mediations and arbitrations. Members of our department have served as pro tempore judges of the superior court and as arbitrators. When appropriate, we attempt to have disputes resolved through alternative-dispute-resolution techniques. Whether such techniques are feasible or not in a particular case, we work with our clients to develop an appropriate schedule and budget. We also staff matters only with those lawyers necessary for effective and efficient representation.
